Family Vacation | Toronto Lifestyle Photographer

It’s been a little while since my last post, and boy has a lot happened! We have made a move to Toronto, ON, as home base, and are settling in nicely! We are still available worldwide for bookings, but will now be based out of the GTA.

Since we’ve been back in southern Ontario, I’ve been spending some long over due quality time with friends and family, as well as working hard on the launch of our new site (watch for that soon). There are a lot of exciting things on the horizon! But for now here are a few photos from a little summer escape we took with my family. Enjoy!

Dan | Calgary Lifestyle Photographer

For Mother’s Day this year, my partner Dan and I decided to give his mother a collage of portraits of him and his sister.

The collage turned out beautiful and made his mom well up, she hasn’t had photos of them since their first year of high school!

Dan is also a photographer, and any photographers out there know how difficult it is to photograph another photographer — a lot of us photographers don’t enjoy having our photos taken — but difficulties aside I am quite pleased with how the shoot turned out!

Joe and Carole | Calgary Lifestyle Photographer

About two weeks ago, I met up with Dr. Joe Klassen and his partner Carole, of Fish Creek Naturopathic Medicine, to take some head shots for their website, and few shots for the fabulous couple’s personal enjoyment.

While we were in Fish Creek, Carole showed me a nest of owlets! I love owls! Having only ever seen an owl once before, I was quite excited to get a glance at these magnificent hunters! Thanks again Carole, for introducing this part of Fish Creek Park to me!

Shannon | Calgary Lifestyle Photographer

WOW! It has been a really long time since I have posted a new blog post!

I will be posting a lot more from this point on, that is a promise! There is some exciting news to share, so look keep watching the blog for that!

But for now I just wanted to share this beautiful shoot with you all! If you are a follower of my Facebook page I posted a few teasers from this shoot on there a few weeks back, (and if you’re not a follower, you should be! Go there right after here :D ).

Shannon was such a pleasure to work with, and such a great sport, as I had her trekking through the bushes of Fish Creek, she was all about getting the shots! And I just have to say, what a natural she was in front of the camera! I just loved working with her!

Beijing Day 2

Day 2 in Beijing, led us to Forbidden City, unfortunately by the time we got there there was only two hours left until closing.

So we decided to go to Tiananmen Square, however, on our way there we were swarmed with people trying to sell us knock off products, anything from purses to Forbidden City souvenirs to tour packages. These people are some of the most persistent I’ve ever met. Alas to lose the crowd, we ended up exploring more of the neighbouring communities via rickshaw. Our guide was very knowledgeable and I found out that our hotel used to be a university. He dropped us off in the middle some shopping district, from there we wandered about, taking in the sights and storefronts.

We stumbled upon the most amazing street, South Luogu Lane, lined with beautiful boutiques and restaurants, where I was finally able to find vegetarian food! And it was some of the most delicious eats I have ever savored.

Below is a photo of some men playing Chinese Chess on one of the side streets off of South Luogu Lane.

Beijing Day 1

So here it is guys, photo number one from the China journey.

February 26th, myself and fellow classmate Dan Speer flew to Shanghai to intern at Time Out Shanghai. Our placement doesn’t start until March 7th, so we decided to start off our time in China with five nights in Beijing, to take in the sights and tackle some school assignments.

Day one in Beijing was spent exploring the surrounding area of our hotel (which used to be a university), the main road that our hotel faces is filled with street vendors selling meat and produce. The faces of the local people here are a photographers dream, so many stories lay behind those eyes.

The language barrier has been a bit of a challenge as many people do not speak any English and our Mandarin lessons do not begin until we are back in Shanghai.

Here is a photo from day one. More to come…
